You could make a strong case that Don's Dock is John's Pass. Founded in 1946 and run by Don Beggs (third generation to carry that name) Don's Dock predates the boardwalk and just about anything else within view. Don describes his dock and store as "a little piece of Key West" which describes the friendliness and relaxed feel of the place. While the main business is fishing and anything related, Don welcomes anyone (in a good mood) to stop by, have a soda or beer, relax and trade lies, particularly about fishing! Pelican feeding is encouraged and Don stocks the right size fish for that. If you're after that prize t-shirt or hat, Don can accommodate you with attire the local's like to be seen in (the logo is widely recognized and people like the place...one of those "in the know" symbols). You are almost guaranteed to hear the phone ring with someone inquiring about the fishing. Don puts people in touch with charter fishing boats in the area and is known for his honest advice on that score. Don's also rents boats, which is a great way to poke around the protected waters of Boca Ciega bay, fish and watch the dolphins. Most days the Gulf is fine for small boats to venture out in, keeping an eye on weather conditions. And, in case you didn't know, Don's Dock is also the site of the Johns-Pass.com Web Cam! Stop by, if you haven't been to Don's Dock you've missed one of the key (West) spots of John's Pass!! Written by: Scott Collins Thanks Scott!
